HARTLEY COMES INTO HER 'OWN'

Australia's bright new talent Hartley has shown 2019 who is boss with two delicious drum and bass bangers - debuting with Used To and following up with Mind. Now November sees Hartley really coming into her Own. The young singer-songwriter has returned with her third single and it's a big, booming mood.
Own tackles issues around female musicians' representation and treatment in a male-dominated industry. Own is an empowering slow-burner about having your own back even when it feels like nobody else has it.
The scintillating hook has Hartley singing "I've got my own back now, I do it better anyway. I got my own back now, my love is for myself today."
Sound-wise Own takes a step away from Hartley's drum and bass roots, channelling a slower chill-house BPM with dark undertones and simple crunchy production. Your attention is pulled towards Hartley's mesmerising vocals.
Speaking to Cool Accidents, Hartley opened up about the track's inspiration; "When I was starting music in an intimidating, male-dominated industry, I felt powerless and already misjudged as a female vocalist and producer. I struggled with these feelings for a really long time. But I realised that I didn't need anybody's approval. If they didn't like what I was doing, it was their problem, not mine. That's when I wrote Own."
Hella empowering with a catchy AF chorus. We'll be adding Own to all our playlists. For more chill beats that'll have you smashing the repeat button follow Topsify's The Chill List.
